Chili Peppers History

Chili peppers history did not originate in Asia. They came from the Americas since at least 7500 BC. There is evidence located in southwestern Ecuador that chili peppers were grown more than 6000 years ago, and is one of the first cultivated crops in the Americas that is self producing.

Some would say Christopher Columbus discovered America. I would not but I do think he had a big impact on the world. This is especially true in the pepper world. Yes, his networking ability to have a physician on board is what did it. The physician name is Diego Alvarez Chanca (say that real fast), a physician on Columbus' second voyage to the West Indies in 1493, carried the first chili peppers to Spain, and first wrote about their medicinal effects in 1494. From there it migrated to Asia then into the Philippines (yea) and then to India, China, Korea and Japan. They were quickly incorporated into the local cuisines. The spiciest pepper grown is Bhut Jolokia chili from India. It weighs in at 1,001,304 Scoville heat units according to Guinness Book of World Records. Woo that is hot!

Peppers have enormous properties to kill diseases. So spice up dishes with some chili peppers it will help your body fight things as well as taste good. I truly hope this inspires you to at least add some spice to your life. Chili Peppers History

I know peppers because there isn’t a dish served in our home without some form of spicy peppers. Did you know there are health benefits peppers? Not just one but hundreds. There so many I can’t possibly mention them all. Here is a list of them.
1. Anti-inflammatory properties- peppers are loaded with capsaicin which gives them both their hot spice and their healing properties. Capsaicin has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, and has been shown to reduce cholesterol ease pain, and slow the spread of prostate cancer.
2. Respiratory problems- Reduces the effects of asthma, bronchitis and an assortment of other breathing problems
3. Digestive disorders- gas, nausea, or indigestion. It seems to stimulate gastric secretions and peristaltic activity and is actually thought to be soothing to the mucosal linings even though it is heating. It has been used herbally in the treatment of ulcers and for other gastrointestinal disease. Peppers actually don’t cause ulcers, they can help prevent and heal them!
4. Cardiovascular diseases- Hot peppers are thought to have anti-clotting mechanisms that work as a blood thinner, which can help the body to fight some causes of both strokes and heart attacks; for this reason it should be avoided by people on anticoagulant drugs.
